Shout For Good
Project background.
Shout for Good is a not-for-profit that lives by its mission to connect people to communities and causes they care most about through the provision of fundraising tools. With over 500 charities and 30,000 users, Shout is striving to change the way the world gives.
Shout Fund is the principal product offering to allow charities to fundraise within the platform.
So how might we enable our charities to bring in an increased number of donations?
It was identified from charity feedback that the current product lacked the functionality and tools to really make it a powerful product, including user-friendly peer-to-peer fundraising and having the ability to add more personalised features to allow charities to keep on brand.
I was tasked with leading the design from end-to-end with the aim to enhance the product to better meet the needs of Shout’s users.
Process
Workshops were used to identify and work through the current gaps in the product and identify areas of opportunity. I worked through some initial design concepts and prototypes, and then performed a number of research sessions with charities to gain feedback on these initial ideas. Areas highlighted for improvement included: allowing greater customisation to fundraising pages, more streamlined creation process, enhanced peer-to-peer pages and greater flexibility.

Prototype of new Peer-toPeer sign up process
To improve customisation and flexibility when creating fundraisers, a new builder tool was designed to allow full customisation through drag and drop functionality, while providing users the ability to add in various sections into their pages to help bring their fundraisers to life. Over 75 individual sections, or templates, were designed to allow full personalisation to ensure charities could keep on brand through enhanced text, image and colour optionality, aided through the design of a new editing tool within the builder.

Capability to build and design fully personalised pages
Greater flexibility and customisation of pages
Re-designed Peer-to-Peer pages
Peer-to-Peer blog functionality
Outcome
By ensuring the project was research led, it enabled me to better understand the needs of the charities when they create their fundraisers, so that I could then ensure that the re-designed product was far more user-friendly, satisfied their needs for flexibility and personalisation, all the while making it an enjoyable experience for the end user.
To date, the revamped designs for Shout Fund are now fully in production and being used a great deal.
In the last year, Shouts total donations received have grown from around $50 million at the end of 2022, to now over $67 million to date.
I strongly believe this is largely in part to the new Fund product that has been built, particularly after hearing such positive customer feedback during testing, and I hope that it continues to help charities and donors in such a positive and impactful way.
